Tree Removal Begins for Nigig Nibi Ki-win Gamik Project as Community Facility Moves Forward – April 20th, 2026

Tree removal work for the 3 Phase development is now underway, marking a significant step forward for the project. As crews begin clearing and brushing activities, residents are advised to expect intermittent road closures along Ininatig Inamo, east of Pikwakanagan Fuels to ensure the safety of workers and the public.

The project represents a major investment in community infrastructure, with plans for a proposed 24,000-square-foot facility designed to support both social services and cultural programming. At its core, the development will house a range of Child and Family Service spaces, including administrative offices, as well as dedicated healing and therapy rooms aimed at supporting wellness and care.

In addition to service areas, the facility will feature a variety of community-focused spaces. These include a large gathering hall, classrooms intended to support cultural education and programming, an Elders Lodge, a fully equipped kitchen, and inclusive washrooms designed to meet the needs of all community members.

The building’s layout has been thoughtfully designed, with all program areas connected by a central corridor. This shared space will not only provide functional flow throughout the facility but will also serve as an opportunity to showcase and reflect the culture, values, and identity of the community.

Community members are encouraged to remain mindful of posted signage and temporary road closures as construction progresses. Further updates on timelines and access will be shared as the project continues to advance.
