Level 1 Fire Ban issued in Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation
To help protect community members, lands, forests, and natural resources during periods of elevated fire risk, a Level 1 Fire Ban has been implemented within the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation.
The fire ban is effective immediately and applies to all open fires within the community.
The decision to implement the ban has been made as a proactive measure to reduce the risk of wildfire and to help safeguard the health, safety, and well-being of residents, visitors, and the surrounding environment.
Under the Level 1 Fire Ban, the following are still permitted:
- Gas barbecues
- Propane fireplaces
- Appliances fueled by propane or natural gas
- Charcoal briquette barbecues
All other open-air burning and recreational fires are prohibited until further notice.
Community members and visitors are encouraged to exercise caution when using approved appliances and to remain vigilant in preventing fire hazards. Everyone has a role to play in protecting the community and surrounding lands from the threat of wildfire.
The Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation Administration thanks residents for their cooperation and commitment to community safety. Updates regarding the fire ban will be shared through official community communication channels as conditions change.
