Public Works

The Public Works Department refers to infrastructure and construction projects funded by the government to benefit the public and improve the community economy and quality of life. These projects often include construction and maintenance of roads, hydro, streetlights, water supply systems recycle/waste management, public buildings and environmental conservation by reducing the ecological footprint to protect mother earth.

Programs & Services

The Housing Program supports more than 200 homes in Pikwakanagan including over 50 rental units. Housing services provide assistance with maintenance, repairs, purchasing, building, or renting a home, as well as guidance and financial support for eligible members.

Public Works is responsible for recycling, waste collection, and fill site management. Our employees work daily to increase and employ effective waste diversion strategies by sorting and organizing our landfill site. This is part of our efforts to serve the community and limit the ecological footprint we create as a community.

Waste Management Services: 

  • Waste and recycling pick up for members.
  • Landfill management. 
  • Recycling education and awareness. 

Waste Disposal Site Hours Of Operation:

  • Wednesday: 12PM to 6PM
  • Sunday: 9AM to 3PM

Curbside Pick Up:

  • Wednesday: Garbage
  • Thursday: Cardboard
  • Friday: Containers

Public Works maintains and improves community roadways, ensuring safety year-round. 

Services 

  • Snow plowing. 
  • Sanding. 
  • Salting. 
  • Repairs. 
  • Construction. 

Public works oversees the upkeep, maintenance, and renovations of community facilities. This includes new construction projects, ensuring that buildings continue to meet the needs of the community. 

Public Works is leading the development of the new Water Treatment Plant to ensure reliable, safe drinking water for the community. This major initiative is a key step in building sustainable infrastructure for future generations. 

  • New subdivision development (2021-2023) with 12 RHI homes at full occupancy
  • Construction of New Water Treatment Plant (2022-on-going)
  • New Fire Truck purchase (2023)
  • New plow trucks with sand /salt spreader (2025)

 

Our community is proud to have our own fire and rescue team made up of volunteer community members and other volunteers alike. Our department assists with recommending training and funding opportunities and assists with providing the fire department's administrative duties.

Public Works is very proud to assist in providing the community with this safety precaution and the Fire Department and Public Works are always searching and finding ways to better the safety of our community.
