Lands, Estates & Membership

This department serves a critical function in promoting sustainable development, responsible land stewardship, and effective management within the Algonquin First Nation territory. It serves as a cornerstone in advancing self-determination, resilience, and sustainable environmental practices.

The department’s initiatives align with the Nation’s Land Use Plan and Comprehensive Community Plan, ensuring that development and programming reflect community values, long-term growth projections, and jurisdictional authority under the Land Code

Council Portfolio Holders liaise between the Lands Committee and Council. The committee, composed of community members, collaborates with the Executive Director and Lands Managers to execute strategic priorities.

Key Services/Programs Offered:

Lands Services: coordinating documentation for transfers of land and property; issuing permits; land designation

Estate Services: managing and processing the estates of members, including beneficiary support and transfer of rights and assets.

Membership Services: overseeing member registration, issuing Status Cards, and maintaining records and census data.
