Vision and Values
The AOPFN “Vision” as Algonquin People is the Path to our future. Along the way, we shall strive for faith in our children, unity in our families, security in our identity, and safety and health in our First Nation, both today and for future generations.
We will achieve our “Vision” through wisdom, unity, respect and living according to our traditional values.
Our “Vision” is of a strong, healthy, safe and thriving First Nation. Our First Nation is unified in its values and thrives for harmony within the First Nation, and with our neighbors.
- A Caring People:
We are a caring People, and those in need will always be our first priority.
Our “Vision” includes adequate housing, and full services and facilities to meet our basic needs.
- Self-sufficiency and Self-determination:
The Algonquin “Vision” is of an able People who are in control of their own destiny, both individually and collectively and consist with our Nation’s sovereignty. Our members (citizens) seek to contribute to the collective wellbeing and not be dependent.
- An Algonquin Education:
Our People value competence and the ability to be self-sufficient. The education of our membership (citizens) must be Algonquin. It must enable them to have opportunities and to make choices about their futures, as well as to participate with full confidence in our culture and that of the broader Canadian society.
- Sustainable Employment:
We are responsible People who seek to contribute and participate in economic opportunities. Our “Vision” is one to support and grow talent and sustainable employment for our People.
We strive to create sustainable employment in and near, the Golden Lake community of the First Nation.
- A Healthy, Natural, Sustainable Environment:
The protection, preservation and enjoyment of the lands, its life, waters and resources are a fundamental value of First Nation People. Respect for these values guide our decisions, actions and behavior as individuals and as a First Nation.
We have a responsibility to preserve a healthy, natural, self-sustaining environment which will be enjoyed by “our generations yet unborn”.
