Chief and Council Update – November 21,2025
The AFN (Assembly of First Nations) winter Chiefs Conference is once again coming to the City of Ottawa in early December and the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan will be well represented.
The yearly winter conference will be held from December 2nd to December 4th at the Rogers Centre in Ottawa, where Chief Greg Sarazin, and members of council and staff will be attendance. The AFN (Assembly of First Nations) is the national advocacy organization that works to advance the collective aspirations of First Nations across Canada on matters of national or international nature and concern.
The AFN hosts two Assemblies each year where directives for the organization are established through resolutions that are directed and supported by the First Nations in Assembly (elected Chiefs or proxies from member First Nations).
In addition to the direction provided by Chiefs of each member First Nation, the AFN is guided by an Executive Committee consisting of an elected National Chief (Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak) and Regional Chiefs; one from each province and territory. Support and input to the Executive Committee is provided by representatives from five national councils (Knowledge Keepers, Youth, Veterans, 2SLGBTQQIA+ and Women)
“Attending the National Assembly of First Nations is always a powerful reminder of the strength we carry when we gather as Nations. Sitting alongside leaders from across Turtle Island (Canada), I am reminded that our struggles, our victories, and our visions are deeply connected. These assemblies are moments where our ancestors’ teachings echo through the decisions we make today.” – Chief Greg Sarazin
