Government & Administration

AOPFN is governed by a Chief and Council elected by our community members. Together, they provide leadership, direction, and representation for the Nation, ensuring that decisions reflect the best interests of our citizens—today and for future generations.

Our governance is grounded in our traditional values, laws, and connection to the land. We strive to balance the teachings of our ancestors with the practical realities of modern administration. Every decision we make is guided by respect, integrity, and a commitment to the well-being of our people.

Chief and Council

The Chief and Council are responsible for setting the overall vision and strategic priorities for the Nation. They work collaboratively with community members, staff, and external partners to advance key areas such as governance, economic development, housing, health, education, and cultural preservation.

The leadership team also serves as the political representatives of the Nation in discussions and negotiations with municipal, provincial, and federal governments, as well as other First Nations and organizations.

Administration

The Administration carries out the daily operations of the First Nation, implementing programs, services, and policies established by Chief and Council. Under the direction of the Band Manager (or Executive Director), staff members work across a variety of departments including:

  • Finance and Administration – ensuring accountability, transparency, and sound management of community resources.

  • Health and Social Services – delivering programs that promote wellness and support individuals and families.

  • Education and Training – supporting lifelong learning and opportunities for personal growth.

  • Public Works and Housing – maintaining and improving community infrastructure and housing.

  • Economic Development – fostering partnerships and initiatives that create employment and strengthen local prosperity.

  • Communications and Public Relations –  A proactive, culturally aligned strategy aimed at enhancing internal and external communications with clarity and consistency.

Our administrative team is committed to excellence in service delivery, responsible governance, and continuous improvement. Through teamwork and community engagement, we aim to create a government that is accessible, responsive, and accountable to our membership.
