Housing
Public Works is responsible for Capital Housing, Rental Housing, Home Repair Loans and RRAP in the housing section.

Rental housing offers one, two, three and four bedroom rentals.

Capital Housing is available for status members who reside within Pikwàkanagàn for one consecutive year and meet requirements with the Housing Policy, to construct a home with minor assistance.

Home Repair Loan is available to status members who reside within
Pikwàkanagàn, and meet criteria which is indicated in the policy, so they can apply for a loan with a maximum amount they can borrow to fix their own home in order to meet health and safety standards.

RRAP is available to members who reside within
Pikwàkanagàn which certain guidelines are set in a policy, in order for them to apply for funding through CMCH (Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation) up to a maximum $ amount.


Roads
Public Works is responsible for the every day operation of snow plowing services, road repairs, machine work for homeowners or anyone else; done through Work Orders, septic system installation, material hauling, work billed for new homeowners upon request. They are also responsible for new construction of roads, which includes repairs needed to any major roads, culverts and washouts.

Community Buildings
Public Works is responsible for the following community buildings:
Administration Building: houses 35 employees
Makwa Centre: Community Centre houses the weekly Bingo, dances, events, fund raisers, etc. It also has a ball field, playground and outdoor arena.
Equipment Garage: houses the international snowplow, backhoe, dump truck, salt and sand storage, tools etc.
Fire Hall: houses the fire department, fire trucks and all equipment

Museum: houses the O.P. artifacts and collections.

The Public Works Department is responsible to report to the Ministry of Transportation and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada. We provide fiscal reports in order to receive funding for the department.

STAFF:
Merv Sarazin, Manager, Public Works
Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Public Works program including; finances, reports, personnel, community buildings, roads, electrical, recycling, solid waste, etc.

 

 

 


Chantelle Hubert, Clerk/Assistant, Public Works
Responsible for various administrative duties and general office procedures. Assists public with general inquiries, schedules appointments, and assists departmental committees.

Elvin Tomlinson, Housing Co-ordinator
Responsible for the housing portion of the department which includes rentals, subsidies (housing construction), community buildings, home repair loans and RRAP. A licensed carpenter and certified septic installer.


Mike Ott, Heavy Equipment Operator
Duties include the operation of heavy equipment, bulldozer, tandem truck and snowplow in the winter season. A certified septic installer.

Wilson Amikons, Maintenance
Responsible for the maintenance at the community building, rentals and a certified septic installer.




George Commanda, Maintenance
Responsible for the maintenance of the landfill site, recycling, minor repair jobs, and assists the Housing Co-ordinator when necessary.



Joanne Whiteduck, CHR
Is responsible for water testing when needed and locates and secures funding for water treatment issues.
