2005 Pow Wow

The 18th Annual Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn Pow Wow was a celebration of Anishinabe Traditional Foods, Crafts, Dancing and Drumming. In this year 2005, we celebrated Cultural and Community Pride.

To celebrate Cultural and Community Pride, Pikwàkanagàn artist, Rhonda Amikons created the logo for the theme this year, shown at the top of the page. Following is her explanation of the artwork:

The Grandmother and Grandfather on each side are reflective of the continuum of life. They act as Guardians, influence, and are proud and protective of the child and of everything in life.
The tree represents family.
The Drum represents cultural pride.
The feather represents strength.
The Spirit represents language.
The foot print represents the steps one has taken in life.
The seven seeds are the Seven Grandfather Teachings to help build a positive and proud people.
The mother's braid respresents the mind, body, and spirit, all of which are necessary for one to be healthy and positive in developing pride.
