| The
purpose of a Harvest plan here in Pikwàkanagàn is to ensure
a healthy sustainable number for any animal or plant that is harvested.
Conservation and safety are the main priorities.
Algonquins believe they are the caretakers of the creatures and plant
life on this planet. It is our responsibility to maintain a healthy balance
between us and Nature.
By monitoring, managing and enforcing
plans and laws we ensure conservation is maintained for the benefit of
our future generations.
The Algonquin Harvest Department comprises a Enforcement Officer and a
number of monitors to ensure that the Algonquin Nation Law concerning
hunting and fishing within Algonquin Territory is upheld. The Enforcement
Officer works under the supervision of the the Community Safety Co-ordinator.
