Algonquin Language

Listen to Community Youth and Children Speak Algonquin

The language text book 'Algonquin Conversations - Algonquin Tibádjamowin' and accompanying audio CD were created to aid in the teaching of the Algonquin language. Algonquin Native Language Teacher, Gene Cada, and researcher Genevieve Commanda compiled the book for the Council of the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn.

Our instruction booklet “Algonquin Conversations / Algonquin Tibjamowin”, which includes a CD for correct pronunciation, is available for purchase. To contact the Education Department please follow this email link: Gloria Bernard, Manager

In order to revive the language preschoolers are taught the language in the daycare, and students from the community are offered classes in the Algonquin language in elementary schools in the surrounding regions. For audio recordings of community children learning the Algonquin language please click the link at left.
