The Economic Development Department is structured within the Administration of the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn administrative organization.

The mandate is to ensure and promote economic and employment initiatives of First Nation members. The department assists community members identifying and pursuing economic development, labour and training initiatives. The also approach various government agencies to secure other funding to carry out and complete planned or assigned projects.

Business advisory services are provided as well as assistance in development of business plans and client based training. Summer student programs are administered through this department.

The departmental staff raised money to open a restaurant on the First Nation. The restaurant has been opened since August 1999, and was sold to a First Nation Member.

Work is currently advancing on a Small Business Centre for the First Nation. This building will have spaces to rent for entrepreneurs. The department is looking at other business ventures as well. Follow this link for the Business Registration Form.

Elsie Commanda, Employment Officer
Offers client based training, assists with resumes and interview preparation, skills assessment and career guidance. Develops training to upgrade skills and employability.
