Player, Gerry Benoit
Gerry stands
six foot five inches and plays both recreational and competitive basketball.
He participated in the 2002 North American Indigenous Games for Team Ontario.
Gerry describes himself
as a small forward with offensive skills and has been playing basketball
for over 20 years in leagues in North Bay, Pembroke and Ottawa.
Gerry was born in Arnprior
and played high school ball with Bishop Smith Catholic High School. He
spent his teenage years in Pikwàkanagàn and has played in
men's basketball leagues in both Pembroke and Arnprior.
On
July 14 Gerry will be playing basketball at the Ontario Aboriginal Summer
Games (OASG) held at Laurentian University, Sudbury. Ontario Aboriginal
Sport Circle is hosting the games and Lisa Folger will manage the basketball
teams. Basketball players are encourged to attend the OASG to be considered
for the Team Ontario going to the 2006 North American Indigenous Games
in Denver, Colorado.
Basketball:
Senior Event Only - The winning teams from both male and female divisions
will be named the Senior teams representing Team Ontario at the 2006 NAIG
Bantam, Midget and Juvenille
- these teams will be scouted for the Team Ontario
